Samsung outlines its May 2025 security update for Galaxy devices
The May 2025 SMR contains 58 high-severity Android OS vulnerability patches. Interestingly, this month, no critical Android issues were found. Samsung also patched two high-severity Samsung Semiconductor vulnerabilities, affecting select Galaxy models with Exynos chipsets.
On top of that, the May security update fixes 20 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. Do note that these vulnerabilities are exclusive to Galaxy devices and don’t impact other Android phones. Samsung hasn’t explained all patches due to security reasons, but mentioned some notable fixes.
Samsung has addressed a flaw in the Keymaster trustlet, which allows local privileged attackers to write out-of-bounds memory. It also fixes a flaw in SmartManagerCN, allowing local attackers to launch activities. The release note mentions another major vulnerability within EnrichedCall that allows local attackers to access sensitive information.
Additionally, Samsung patched an issue with Galaxy Watch Settings, which allows physical attackers to access developer settings. Other security vulnerabilities have also been identified in components such as Notification History, Wi-Fi P2P service, and S Pen Gesture service.
These issues affect several Galaxy devices running Android 13, 14, and 15. Samsung is now rolling out fixes for all the identified vulnerabilities as part of the May 2025 security update to eligible models. While the company aims to push the security patches as soon as possible to all eligible models, roll-out time may vary depending on the regions and models. You can keep an eye out for the latest security patch via Settings > Software update > Download and install.
