Samsung outlines its July 2025 security update for Galaxy devices
Samsung continues to protect the Galaxy device ecosystem through its monthly security patch releases. The July 2025 SMR contains fixes for 21 high-severity Android OS vulnerabilities and one critical Android issue. Furthermore, Samsung addressed a high-severity issue in its semiconductors that affected some Galaxy devices with Exynos chips.
Apart from Google and Samsung Semiconductor patches, Samsung has also included 17 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVEs) in this month’s release. These SVEs address security flaws discovered in Galaxy phones, tablets, and wearables. Note that these flaws only exist on Galaxy devices and do not affect Android phones from other brands.
Among the SVE items patched with the July SMR is a serious flaw in KnoxVault trustlet that allows local privileged attackers to write out-of-bounds memory. The latest patch also includes fixes for Galaxy watches across SystemUI, Framework, and Samsung Account. These flaws previously allowed local attackers to power off the device, reset the watch configuration, and access the phone number.
Samsung has fixed a moderate-severity issue on Galaxy Tablets, where improper authorization controls allowed secondary users to access the owner’s saved Wi-Fi passwords. Other security issues have also been fixed in multiple areas, such as LeAudioService, Bluetooth, and Emergency SOS.
A few days ago, Samsung started testing the July 2025 security update for multiple devices. It should soon roll out the new SMR for those devices. You can keep an eye out for the July patch by going through Settings > Software update > Download and install. We are also tracking the update and will let you know when it becomes available, so stay tuned.
