Samsung Electronics’ stock has risen as much as 300% over the past year, much of which can be attributed to rising memory chip prices. Samsung is one of the largest manufacturers of these chips in the world. What makes the stock’s story even more remarkable is that in November 2024, the shares had fallen to a four-year low.

Samsung becomes first Korean company to cross $1 trillion in market capitalization

But just months later, on February 26, Samsung Electronics’ market capitalization crossed $1 trillion (h/t Jukan on X). That makes it the first Korean company to join the $1 trillion club, now ranking 13th worldwide. It briefly climbed to 12th place globally before Walmart reclaimed that spot.

In fact, only 13 companies in the world have crossed the $1 trillion market capitalization mark. Market capitalization is essentially the share price multiplied by the number of shares allotted.

What’s even more interesting is that Samsung is the only Korean brand among the top 20 largest companies in the world. The 21st spot is held by SK Hynix, another Korean chipmaker and a fierce rival of Samsung. Eight of the top 10 spots are occupied by US companies. And the remaining two belong to Saudi Aramco and TSMC.

About a day ago, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S26 series in San Francisco at its annual Galaxy Unpacked event. The new phones are now available for preorder and will officially go on sale starting March 11. Samsung introduced a couple of new features, especially with the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Samsung also opted for a split chip strategy for the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+, using its in-house Exynos 2600 chipset in all markets except the US, China, and Japan. That said, you can check out our Galaxy S26 Ultra hands-on, along with a look at some of the best features we think stand out in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, in the video below.
