Samsung’s Galaxy AI Photo Assist is already one of the most capable image-generation and fill tools available on a smartphone. Now, with One UI 8.5, the company is ready to push the tool into a new phase. It is preparing text-based editing that gives users far more precise control over how images are altered, expanded, or rebuilt.

Text-based AI editing is coming to Photo Assist on Galaxy smartphones

A screenshot shared by NirmalSri on X offers a glimpse of the updated Photo Assist with a dedicated text field. “Use the text field in Photo Assist to add, change, or remove things in images. You can even add things from other images and describe how you want to combine them into your image,” the official description reads.

This is in addition to the existing ability of sketching directly onto your image to add objects that look like realistic parts of the picture. Photo Assist also already lets you remove certain objects from your images, using AI to fill in relevant details. The upcoming text and image-based editing gives users more ways to enhance their photos.

With this change, Galaxy users will be able to generate new elements in photos using text prompts or images, modify existing objects based on written instructions, and even remove unwanted elements simply by describing them. In short, Photo Assist is moving closer to a prompt-driven editing workflow, giving users much finer control.

This feature isn’t available to the public yet, not even for Galaxy S25 users participating in One UI 8.5 Beta. The new Create option is live in Beta 2, but there’s no text field. Samsung may introduce it with the Galaxy S26 series before expanding to other models, something it is also expected to do with the new, Perplexity-powered Bixby. The 2026 flagships should debut at the end of February.
