Samsung Internet Leak Brings Major Changes Sooner Than Expected

Samsung Internet is preparing for a significant visual and feature overhaul in One UI 8.5. However, many of those upgrades may land sooner than expected. A leaked version of the app introduces a cleaner design and several useful improvements, and it already works on One UI 8. Unless Samsung deliberately delays its release, this update should arrive shortly.

Leaked Samsung Internet update for One UI 8 reveals major upgrades

One UI 8.5 is expected to debut Samsung Internet version 29.1.2.23, introducing a new pill-shaped URL/address bar and many other changes. Meanwhile, version 29.0.2.58 of the app has now leaked, revealing that Samsung is laying the groundwork for the upcoming major update. This version works on One UI 8, though it’s unclear when it will see a public release.

As far as changes are concerned, the main menu now appears in a side panel rather than a sheet at the bottom. The options remain unchanged, and you can no longer customize the layout, something the leaked One UI 8.5 version also doesn’t allow. In older versions, you can remove certain options from the main menu. The bottom toolbar remains customizable.

The home page also gets customizable backgrounds, something Samsung is already testing in the beta version of Samsung Internet. In fact, Samsung Internet version 29.0.2.58 carries many other changes previously seen in beta builds. The address bar remains a large, rounded rectangle, not a pill expected in One UI 8.5. The tab manager, meanwhile, gets a pill-shaped toolbar.

Overall, this version appears to prepare Samsung’s internet browser app for the major overhaul in One UI 8.5.
