In 2026, refrigerators are no longer just for keeping food fresh. Ten years ago, Samsung took it to the next level with the launch of the Family Hub smart refrigerator. How Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerator turns into a true AI kitchen partner
Samsung says that its innovative efforts have been recognized with 10 Innovation Awards at CES, the world’s largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition. The company continues to push the limits of what a refrigerator can do, allowing it to understand and respond to users through screens, cameras, and voice.

According to the infographic (via The Asian Business Daily), the Family Hub refrigerator has introduced a host of cutting-edge features since its debut. The 2016 model arrived with a 21.5-inch Full HD touchscreen. In 2017, Samsung brought voice recognition technology. The following year, the technology gained Bixby’s support, making interactions even easier. In 2023, the Family Hub expanded to a 32-inch screen, allowing users to stream content on platforms like YouTube.

In 2025, Samsung introduced the Voice ID feature, allowing the Family Hub refrigerator to recognize individual users. This year, the company unveiled the Bespoke AI Family Hub, the latest evolution of the smart refrigerator with upgraded AI Vision. The firm describes it as a true AI partner that sees, hears, speaks, and understands its users.
Thanks to Google Gemini integration, the new Family Hub can recognize food ingredients using its internal camera. Previous models could recognize up to 37 types of fresh foods and 50 types of pre-registered processed food, but now it can identify more food items. The Family Hub also features the new AI Food Manager that makes day-to-day kitchen tasks easier. It suggests recipes based on available ingredients and reminds users when items are running low. This feature makes the refrigerator a smart kitchen assistant, helping families manage meals more efficiently.
