Can Sound Stop Motion Sickness? Samsung Thinks So With Hearapy

For many of us, motion sickness is one of travel’s most common annoyances. Samsung has quietly introduced a new way to deal with this unpleasant issue. Samsung has quietly launched a free app called Hearapy. The company claims it can ease nausea using sound instead of medication or physical remedies.
Samsung is taking on motion sickness with its Hearapy app
It plays a precise 100 Hz tone that users are meant to listen to for about a minute before starting their journey. According to Samsung, this short session could help reduce motion sickness symptoms for up to two hours. It’s positioned as a quick and easy pre-travel step rather than something you need to keep using throughout the trip.
Researchers say listening to 100Hz tone, played at 80-85 db for a minute can help
This approach is based on research from Nagoya University, where scientists studied how specific sound frequencies interact with the body’s balance system. Their findings suggest that a 100 Hz tone, played at around 80 to 85 decibels, can stimulate the vestibular system in the inner ear. This system helps the brain process movement and maintain balance, which is exactly where motion sickness tends to originate.
Motion sickness usually happens when there’s a mismatch between what your eyes see and what your body feels. Looking at a phone or reading in a moving car is a common trigger. The idea here is that exposing the inner ear to this tone beforehand may help it handle motion signals more effectively once you’re on the move.
