Samsung seems to have pulled the first software update for unlocked Galaxy S25 units in the US. Users reported issues from day one, with the update appearing but failing to download and install. The company recommended using Smart Switch, but that didn’t help either. Now, the update doesn’t show up at all.
Samsung may have halted the Galaxy S25’s first update in the US
The Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra received their first software update in mid-February. Samsung initially updated carrier-locked units in the US and gradually covered unlocked units. However, many users with an unlocked Galaxy S25 reported problems installing the update.
“Couldn’t update,” a pop-up on the screen read when trying to download the newly released update. “Try updating using Smart Switch on your computer or contact Customer Service,” the full message explained. Samsung didn’t specify the cause of the problem. Unfortunately, the recommended solution didn’t work for everyone.
This suggested there’s a bigger underlying problem, and Samsung’s decision to halt the rollout reinforces that. Galaxy S25 users who have had troubles installing this update are no longer seeing the update. Their phones say the latest update has already been installed, even though they are still on the December 2024 patch.
We reached out to Samsung for a comment, and a representative said the company is aware of the OTA (over the air) update issues for unlocked Galaxy S25 units in the US. However, they didn’t reveal its cause, nor did they specify when the rollout might resume. Hopefully, Samsung will fix the problem soon and push a new update.
