Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold May Not Support S Pen

Samsung’s first tri-folding smartphone is inching closer to reality. While the company hasn’t officially confirmed the device, reports point to a potential launch before the end of the year. Expected to be called the Galaxy Z TriFold, a fresh leak suggests that the device may ship without S Pen support.
Samsung may not offer S Pen support on its first tri-fold
After dropping S Pen support from last year’s limited-edition Galaxy Z Fold SE, Samsung removed the feature from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 this year. In between, it stripped out Bluetooth functionality from the stylus, citing low usage among customers. Industry watchers believe the company will eventually remove the built-in S Pen from the S Ultra models as well, and this could happen as early as the Galaxy S27 Ultra in 2027.
As such, it’s no surprise that the upcoming Galaxy Z TriFold will lack S Pen support. One major reason is Samsung’s current design philosophy. The company is prioritizing slimmer, lighter phones, and the S Pen doesn’t align with that goal. To read stylus input, displays require a dedicated digitizer layer, which adds thickness and weight.
While Samsung has been researching digitizer-free S Pen technology, it doesn’t appear ready for mass adoption. There’s also speculation that stylus innovation may remain exclusive to Galaxy tablets in the future. It would have still made sense for Samsung to include S Pen support on the tri-fold as an optional accessory. The device is expected to unfold into a display nearly 10 inches across, making it more like a small tablet than a phone.
As the rumored launch window approaches, more details about Samsung’s first tri-fold should surface. Rumors hint at a limited initial launch in China and South Korea later this year, followed by a global release in 2026. We shall find out soon.
