Bummer! Galaxy S26 Series May Not See Selfie Camera Upgrade

As the development of Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series progresses, more details are slowly coming out. A fresh leak now sheds light on what the company is cooking up for the selfie camera of the Galaxy S26 lineup. Well, you might be in for some bad news.
Samsung may use the older 12MP selfie camera in the Galaxy S26 series
As part of the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung may most likely bring three models: S26 Pro, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra. New rumors suggest there may be a Galaxy S26+ variant as well, but that remains to be seen. According to noted tipster Roland Quandt, all Galaxy S26 models will share the same 12MP selfie camera with autofocus. If you are a long-term Galaxy user, you probably know that this is the same setup as the Galaxy S23 series launched in 2023. The company then continued to use the same selfie sensor in the Galaxy S24 and S25 series (including FE).

Of course, more people want solid image and video quality from their phone’s selfie camera. However, with the Galaxy S26 series, users may not see improvements in selfie photography unless the company improves quality through software optimization. There’s another possibility as well. We may see a wider aperture, despite the same sensor, allowing more light to enter for better low-light performance.
The reason we are expecting this is that previous reports suggest the Galaxy S26 Ultra will feature the same 200MP primary sensor as previous generations, but with a wider f/1.4 aperture. Meanwhile, the 12MP selfie unit is still a solid camera that delivers reliable performance. In our review of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, we found the camera delivers satisfactory shots for everyday use. So, the lack of a selfie upgrade in the upcoming S26 series should not be a major concern for many people.
