Samsung Galaxy A17 5G May Stick to 5,000mAh Battery, 25W Charging

It’s no secret that Samsung has been developing its next-generation Galaxy A lineup, including the Galaxy A17 5G. The phone recently appeared on the SGS certification platform, revealing its battery capacity and charging speeds. It looks like the Korean firm hasn’t planned any upgrades for this budget phone in this area.
Samsung Galaxy A17 5G appears on the SGS certification platform
In recent years, Samsung’s Galaxy A lineup has gained a lot of traction in the market thanks to its affordability and well-balanced features. The company is gearing up to expand the lineup with the introduction of the Galaxy A17 5G in the coming months.
Folks over at 91Mobiles recently spotted several new Galaxy model numbers — SM-A176B/DS, SM-A176B, SM-A176U, SM-A176U1, and SM-A176N — on Finland’s SGS Fimko certification website. Based on past patterns, these model numbers in question are likely for the Galaxy A17 5G, intended for multiple markets, including the global market, the US, and South Korea.

The listing confirms that the Galaxy A17 5G will pack a 4,860mAh battery, which Samsung will likely market as a 5,000mAh unit. This is the same capacity found in its predecessor, the Galaxy A16 5G. In fact, the Korean firm has been using the same battery unit since the Galaxy A12 (2020), and this year appears to be no different.
As for charging capabilities, the listing reveals a 9V/2.77A standard rating, which translates to 25W fast charging. So, once again, there’s no upgrade in this department. While Chinese competitors are offering faster 45W charging speeds in budget smartphones, Samsung has decided to stick with 25W.
The good news is that Samsung is likely to bring improvements to the camera segment. The Galaxy A17 5G may feature optical image stabilization (OIS) for the primary camera — a feature missing from previous Galaxy A1x series phones. If true, this would make the phone a good choice for photography enthusiasts as well at an affordable price.
As far as launch is concerned, its appearance on the SGS certification platform suggests that the device may go official later this year, just like its predecessor. More details should emerge in the coming months. Stay tuned.
