Samsung has ended update support for the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The 2020 foldable is no longer eligible for new software updates, not even security patches. The Galaxy A02s and Galaxy A12 are also done getting new updates from the company. These devices will not receive the January 2025 security patch either.

Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy A02s, and A12 stop getting updates from Samsung

Launched in August 2020, followed by a market release in September, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 was eligible for three major Android OS updates and four years of security patches — Samsung has since upgraded its support policy multiple times, now offering seven years of OS and security updates. The foldable arrived with Android 10 and picked up updates to Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13.

Last October, the device completed four years, and Samsung duly ended support for it. However, its Chinese version (W21 5G), was still receiving updates as it launched late in 2025. The time is now up for that model as well. Samsung’s updated list of Galaxy devices currently eligible for updates doesn’t feature the W21 5G, confirming the end of its life. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has officially stopped getting updates.

Additionally, Samsung removed the Galaxy A02s and Galaxy A12 from the list. Both of these budget phones launched in late 2020 and shipped with Android 10. They received feature updates up to Android 12 alongside four years of security patches. The Korean firm has now stopped offering new updates to them.

If you own any of these devices, it’s high time you should upgrade to a newer model. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is Samsung’s latest top-tier foldable, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra leads the line for flagship smartphones. The company will soon launch the Galaxy S25 Ultra, though. The new model will go official on January 22. Pre-reservations are now live on Samsung’s website.
