Canalys reports that the Latin American smartphone market grew by 15% in 2024, and there’s good news for Samsung. But before we get there, it’s worth noting that Latin America hit an all-time high in smartphone shipments last year, according to Canalys. The icing on the cake? Samsung held onto its crown as Latin America’s top smartphone maker, outpacing all competitors and securing an impressive 31% market share.
Samsung tops smartphone shipments in Latin America in 2024, way more than any brand
According to Canalys, Samsung shipped around 42.9 million smartphones in Latin America in 2024. That’s almost twice as many as Motorola, which came in second with 22.8 million shipments and a 17% market share. Motorola and Xiaomi were in a tight race, with Xiaomi shipping 22.7 million units. The top five also included TRANSSION and HONOR, both growing their presence in the region. On top of that, Samsung’s yearly growth increased by 12%, strengthening its lead.
One surprising name missing from the top five is Apple. However, the company did appear in the Q4 2024 rankings, shipping about 2.8 million iPhones. That number is far behind Samsung, which dominated the quarter with 10.2 million shipments and a 31% market share. It’s clear that Samsung is leading the way in Latin America, leaving competitors struggling to catch up.
Looking ahead, the market could change as companies release new models. Samsung has several new phones, including the Galaxy A series launch, lined up in the coming weeks, which might help it maintain its strong position. Whether rivals like Apple, Motorola, or Xiaomi can close the gap remains to be seen. But for now, Samsung is on top.
