In a shocking development, Samsung has decided to discontinue its Galaxy Edge lineup. It has halted the production of the ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge just five months after its launch. The company has also reportedly canceled the upcoming Galaxy S26 Edge, signaling a full retreat from its ambitious “slim phone” experiment.

Galaxy S26 Edge canceled, S25 Edge production halted

The Galaxy S25 Edge, launched on May 23, was Samsung’s attempt to deliver an ultra-slim smartphone with flagship specs. While cheaper than the S25 Ultra, it was more expensive than the standard S25 and S25+, placing it in a tricky pricing bracket. The company had high expectations, but the market reception was lukewarm. Sales figures starkly underperformed compared to other models.

A month after its launch, Samsung sold only 190,000 Galaxy S25 Edge units. In comparison, it sold 1.17 million S25, 840,000 S25+, and 2.55 million S25 Ultra phones in the first month. Analysts cite the small battery, premium pricing, and limited practical benefit of a thinner form factor as key reasons for the lackluster response. A slim design meant the phone lacked a zoom camera.

Samsung has now decided to shelve the project altogether. It has notified internal teams of the discontinuation and confirmed that production of the S25 Edge will cease once the current stock is sold. Since the Galaxy S26 Edge has already been developed, it may still see a limited release as a standalone model at some point. But Samsung no longer plans to continue the series.

“I’m not sure if the slim line will ever return, but as of now, it seems unlikely. It’s practically gone,” a company official said. Industry insiders describe this as a strategic retreat grounded in market reality. Samsung allegedly only entered the market because Apple was developing a slim model, the iPhone Air. Since existing premium smartphones are already quite thin, consumers valued performance and battery capacity more than aesthetics.

The Plus model returns?

With the Edge line scrapped, the Galaxy S26 series is now expected to follow a traditional three-model lineup. The Plus model, previously slated to be replaced by the Edge, may now return as part of this strategy, emphasizing battery life, performance, and mainstream consumer demand over extreme slimness. Samsung recently started working on the Galaxy S26+.
