Security updates play a key role in keeping devices safe from new threats. Each month, Samsung releases patches to fix newly discovered vulnerabilities that could allow attackers to access private data or take control of devices. The December 2025 security update brings a bunch of important fixes to protect Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches from threats.

This month’s update is particularly significant because it addresses 6 critical and 51 high-severity Android issues. Furthermore, it addresses 11 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVEs). Note that these Samsung-specific fixes are only applicable to Galaxy devices, meaning users of other Android brands will not receive them.

Some of the vulnerabilities patched in this update could have allowed attackers to do serious damage. For example, an out-of-bounds write in the fingerprint trustlet could let an attacker manipulate device memory. Likewise, an out-of-bounds read in the bootloader could let an attacker view sensitive information.

Samsung has also fixed an issue in the Dynamic Lockscreen that allowed attackers to access out-of-bounds memory. On top of that, the company addressed a host of vulnerabilities in core system libraries, including libsec-ril.so and libimagecodec.quram.so. By addressing these vulnerabilities, the firm aims to bring a safer experience for Galaxy users.

So, you should install the December 2025 security update as soon as it becomes available. You can keep an eye on the latest software via Settings > Software update > Download and install. We’ll be sure to let you know when the update starts rolling out. Meanwhile, Samsung is preparing its next major Android 16 software update, One UI 8.5. The company might launch the beta program on December 8.
