Samsung’s Cutting-Edge OLED Panel Shines on Apple’s First Foldable iPhone

by | May 9, 2025 | News

While Samsung has been leading the foldable smartphone market for several years, its competitor, Apple, is yet to join this space. Apple is waiting for the industry to mature, so its first-ever foldable doesn’t feel like an unfinished product. The firm may finally launch a folding iPhone next year, and it may feature Samsung’s most advanced foldable OLED panel.

Samsung Display to supply custom foldable OLED panels to Apple

Apple usually does not rely heavily on one partner and orders displays from multiple suppliers to keep costs down. However, an earlier report suggested that the firm would buy displays for its first foldable iPhone exclusively from Samsung. We now have the clarity on why Samsung Display will be the sole supplier of OLED panels for the device.

According to tipster yeux1122, Samsung Display has been developing a custom design OLED panel for Apple’s first foldable iPhone. This new display meets Apple’s requirements for the levels of thickness, power-to-weight ratio, brightness, etc. Tipster further said that Apple will hold the branding trademark rights.

Interestingly, it uses a completely new method of production that has not been used in any Samsung product before (including the Galaxy Z Fold series of devices). One of the biggest improvements is the touch sensor that has been integrated into the display, which reduces the screen’s thickness by around 19%. So, compared to the screen inside Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, this is a major upgrade.

This is why Samsung has been making its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 thinner than previous foldable models. According to an earlier report, it will measure 8.9 mm when folded and 3.9 mm when unfolded.

Additionally, Samsung has also improved color reproduction and brightness in this new display, including peak brightness and normal brightness. An earlier report also suggested Samsung Display will address the visible crease issue, which is one of the biggest concerns among foldable smartphone buyers.

This collaboration shows that even though Samsung and Apple compete in the smartphone market, they also partner for cutting-edge technology. It won’t be surprising if Samsung implements a similar display tech on its future Galaxy Z Fold devices. After all, it may face significant changes when Apple debuts its first foldable iPhone on the market.
