Samsung Confirms AI-Enhanced Foldables for 2025, Tri-Fold Likely

by | Apr 30, 2025 | Galaxy Z, News

Samsung is preparing to take foldable innovation to the next level in 2025, confirming plans to deliver differentiated AI user experiences across its upcoming foldable devices. Alongside the expected Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, the company is also developing an affordable Galaxy Flip model and a highly anticipated tri-fold device. These new offerings could help it further expand its dominance in the foldables market.

These developments were shared as part of Samsung’s Q1 2025 earnings report, where the company outlined its strategy to deepen AI integration across its mobile ecosystem, with foldables playing a central role. The Korean firm also confirmed the upcoming launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge, its first-ever slim flagship.

Next-gen foldables will lead Samsung’s AI push

While Samsung stopped short of revealing full product details, it confirmed that its next wave of foldables will offer unique AI-driven experiences, aiming to set them apart from conventional smartphones. This aligns with Samsung’s broader mobile strategy, which increasingly focuses on on-device intelligence and real-time generative AI capabilities under its Galaxy AI initiative.

The Korean behemoth’s updated lineup will be led by the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. These two models are likely to debut in July, continuing the annual summer refresh cycle. We are expecting refined hardware, updated camera systems, and improved Galaxy AI features, including on-device summarization, live translation, and possibly expanded Gemini integration for real-time assistance.

However, Samsung won’t stop there this year. In a move that could broaden the appeal of foldables, the company is also working on an entry-level Galaxy Flip model, likely called the Flip FE or Flip Xe. This new device should lower the price barrier while still offering core foldable features, paired with a streamlined AI experience.

A tri-fold is in the pipeline, too

More intriguingly, Samsung has a tri-fold foldable in the pipeline — a product that’s long been rumored and now appears closer to reality. The device unfolds from smartphone to tablet with nearly 10 inches of screen space. Once again, AI might play a critical role in adapting the interface and content dynamically across form factors. Neither of these models has confirmed release dates, though speculation suggests the tri-fold could debut in late 2025, possibly alongside the new XR headset.

Or maybe Samsung will surprise us with a ton of new devices at Unpacked in July. The second Unpacked in 2025 may take place in New York in the first half of July. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, new watches, and new tablets are likely to be the key attractions at the event. However, Samsung may have more tricks up its sleeve, like how it teased the S25 Edge at the January Unpacked. We will keep you posted.
