Samsung Brings One UI to Home Appliances, Now Brief Included

Samsung has announced that it will bring its One UI platform to its home appliance lineup. The software will include Now Brief, a powerful feature for personalized AI-powered briefings, though it won’t be available until next year. The company will begin rolling out a bunch of new software enhancements next month for 2024 models.
One UI comes to Samsung’s smart home appliances
Samsung aims to provide a unified software experience across its smartphones, TVs, and smart appliances. Through the One UI platform, home appliances now support Common UI, apps & services, and device connectivity. For example, Bixby, Gallery, and Samsung TV Plus will be available on different screens for seamless device interaction and media consumption. SmartThings will make device connectivity simpler with services like Family Care, Pet Care, and Home Care.

Furthermore, thanks to the integration of Now Brief into its smart appliances, you will now be able to enjoy a familiar smartphone-like interface. Introduced with One UI 7, the feature delivers personalized and relevant information at a glance. Now you will get a curated selection of useful content, such as daily weather updates, tailored recipes, and other insights, directly on your appliance displays. The company promises to make Now Brief available on home appliances next year.
“By bringing One UI to smart appliances, we are transforming the way people interact with technology in their homes,” said Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team of the Digital Appliances (DA) Business at Samsung Electronics. “This consistency ensures that the experience feels natural and familiar across all our devices.”
Samsung says its Wi-Fi-enabled home appliances, starting with 2024 models, will get software updates for up to seven years. The company is now gearing up for a series of updates for its eligible 2024 models next month. It will bring Knox Matrix, a comprehensive security solution, to Wi-Fi-enabled refrigerators, washers and dryers, air conditioners, EHS, and slide-in induction ranges.
Moreover, upgraded AI Vision will be available on refrigerators with the Family Hub and 9-inch screens. Bixby will gain support for Voice ID to recognize user voices. Samsung TV Plus for refrigerators with Family Hub will also expand to Canada, Brazil, and India.
