Samsung’s August 2025 Security Update Addresses 47 Vulnerabilities

Samsung recently shared the content of its August 2025 Security Maintenance Release (SMR) for Galaxy devices. The new SMR has fixes for 47 security flaws from Samsung, Google, and other partners. The update has already begun rolling out, starting with the Galaxy A56, and will reach more devices in the coming days.
Samsung outlines its August 2025 security update for Galaxy devices
Samsung aims to protect its Galaxy devices against newly discovered vulnerabilities through the monthly security patches. The August security bulletin contains fixes for 28 high-severity Android OS vulnerabilities and one critical Android issue. There is no semiconductor patch this month, meaning no Exynos vulnerabilities were reported or patched.
In addition to Google’s patches, Samsung has also fixed 18 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVEs). Note that these fixes are for Galaxy devices only, including phones, tablets, and wearables. If you are using Android devices from other brands, these SVEs do not affect you. As usual, the Korean firm detailed some of the patched vulnerabilities to improve trust in security systems among users.
Among the SVE items patched with the August SMR is a major issue in the Samsung Account that allows local privileged attackers to deactivate the account. The update also bundles fixes for Galaxy Watches across SemSensorService, fall detection, and SemSensorManager.
These vulnerabilities allowed local attackers to access sensitive information related to motion and body sensors. On top of that, they could modify fall detection configuration and access sensitive information related to outdoor exercise and sleep time.
Another notable fix is blocking attackers from accessing the device identifier. Other security issues have also been addressed in several components, such as Document Scanner, PkgPredictorService, and Emergency SOS.
If you want these latest security improvements, you should install the August 2025 update once available. You can keep checking for the latest patch via Settings > Software update > Download and install. Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up to release its stable One UI 8 for the Galaxy S25 series and other eligible devices in the coming weeks.
