Samsung and OpenAI Might Join Hands to Develop AI TVs: Report

by | Jan 16, 2025 | News, TV

In a new partnership, Samsung and OpenAI are coming together to develop AI-powered TVs, according to reports from South Korea. Reports suggest Samsung is doubling down in the competitive TV market, where budget-friendly Chinese brands are gaining ground. The tech giant plans to integrate OpenAI’s advanced AI capabilities into its televisions. Last year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman visited Samsung’s semiconductor plant in Korea. During the visit, he initiated talks about developing in-house AI processing chips with Samsung’s help. Now, the two companies may be teaming up for something even bigger and better for consumers.

Samsung reportedly in talks with OpenAI for rumored AI TVs line

Obviously, none of the competition has come close to what OpenAI has achieved in recent years. While Google has rolled out its own chatbot, Gemini, it hasn’t quite reached the same level as OpenAI — at least not yet. Only time will tell who comes out on top in the AI race. But for now, OpenAI is definitely leading the pack. Samsung has already introduced several AI-powered features to its TV lineup and even showcased Vision AI at CES 2025 to improve integration with its SmartThings platform.

Samsung knows it needs to keep innovating to stay ahead, which is why it’s teaming up with OpenAI for AI-powered TVs. While the deal isn’t finalized yet, Maeil Business suggests the partnership could depend on OpenAI’s terms. Well, especially if the costs end up being too steep. If the collaboration goes through, we could see Samsung integrating ChatGPT’s AI into its TVs.

It’s still early days But we might see Samsung roll out some cool features like ChatGPT for text generation, DALL-E for image creation, and Whisper for voice recognition. These AI-powered tools could lead to personalized content recommendations, more interactive assistants, multitasking capabilities, real-time translations, and entertainment suggestions. The possibilities are endless, and it looks like we’re just getting started.
