Samsung’s ball-shaped AI-powered robot Ballie seems to have disappeared once again. The company promised to release the personal robot this summer, but as the season ends, there is still no sign of it. This leaves fans wondering whether the firm will ever release it or will remain a concept.

Samsung’s rolling AI robot misses summer launch window

At CES 2020, Samsung teased a concept: a rolling ball-shaped AI robot called Ballie. More than five years have passed, and the robot has yet to hit the market. During CES 2025, the company confirmed that it will be available for purchase in the first half of the year. However, in April this year, the company decided to push the release once again, announcing that the Ballie will arrive in the United States and Korea this summer.

Now that the summer window has passed, questions are rising about whether Samsung has a plan to integrate Ballie into its smart home ecosystem. Earlier, an official said that the company wants to perfect Ballie while also making sure it comes to market at the right time. The comments suggested that the wait will be worth it. However, it’s starting to feel like the wait will never end.

For the uninitiated, Ballie is a three-wheeled AI robot that can move around your home to complete simple tasks. Thanks to the integration of cameras, a mini projector, speakers, a microphone, and sensors, they all help the robot understand its surroundings.

Ballie uses Gemini’s multimodal capabilities and Samsung language models to process user inputs. This allowed the robot to respond to voice commands, manage smart home devices, give weather updates, and more. For example, if you ask, “Hey Ballie, how do I look?” it will respond with styling recommendations. However, the AI companion robot might arrive with a steep price tag — rumors suggest it could cost more than $2,000.

So far, Samsung has not shared any updates regarding the latest delay. Hopefully, the release will happen before the end of this year. We will let you know when we have information about Ballie’s availability.
