Samsung has now made its latest One UI 7 available for most eligible Galaxy Tab models, though some mid-range tablets are still waiting. However, some Galaxy Tab users who have updated to the latest One UI have recently been experiencing an annoying bug causing the home screen to crash. Thankfully, the Korean firm is aware of the issue and has provided a fix for it.
Samsung explains the Galaxy Tab One UI 7 home screen crashing issue and shares a solution
Last month, Samsung issued a warning for Galaxy Tab users about One UI 7 issues and shared pre-update steps. The notice was regarding the home screen layout, advising users to change the layout to a horizontal grid before updating to One UI 7. It looks like those users who did not follow the warning or did not see the notice may now be encountering the home screen crashing issue.
According to a Samsung community moderator, the problem mainly affects users who had a specific home screen layout before updating to One UI 7. If your home screen was set up in a 5×7 layout, and you were using large widgets that filled the screen vertically (like a 3×7 widget), this may be causing the problem.
However, you don’t have to worry as there’s a simple fix for the issue. You just have to delete the data of the One UI Home app, which will reset the home screen settings and may stop the crashing issue. To delete the One UI Home app data, you need to first launch the Settings app on your Galaxy Tab and select Applications. Now, look for the One UI Home app and then tap on Storage. Finally, hit the Delete Data option to delete app data completely.
Do note that deleting app data will remove your personal settings, such as the home screen layout. So, you have to set up the home screen layout again, but this small inconvenience is worth it to stop the crashing problem.
