A few hours ago, Google hosted The Android Show recently, a preview event leading up to their flagship Google I/O event. The showcase unveiled a slew of exciting changes coming to Android, offering a glimpse into what’s in store. Amid all the announcements, Google may have let slip one key detail. And it’s something many had already anticipated.
One UI 8.0 is officially confirmed to launch “later this summer”
Google themselves revealed that Android 16 will launch “alongside many others this summer.” While they didn’t directly name Samsung, it was a clear indication. Eagle-eyed viewers quickly caught on, realizing this was a veiled confirmation of the upcoming One UI 8.0 launch. Samsung fans can now confidently look forward to a new iteration of the skin.

How soon will it launch?
It seems like the One UI 8 beta program will be a short and snappy one, very much different from One UI 7’s testing phase. It may be a rather limited test, with a small number of Galaxy devices getting a taste of it. You won’t have to wait too long to be able to try it out, though.
As for the launch, expect an unveiling at the upcoming Unpacked event in July, right alongside their new Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. This update should then roll out to the devices previously on the beta program, before trickling down to everyone else soon after. Expect this rollout to be much faster than that of One UI 7.
As for what will be coming with this update, expect major changes to Samsung DeX, third-party app support for Live Notifications, redesigns for various Samsung apps, among various smaller tweaks and adjustments. Does Samsung have a trick hidden up their sleeve? We shall see later in the summer.
