Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Chips May Power Upcoming Android PCs

It’s no secret that Google is developing a desktop Android platform to bring the mobile operating system into the PC world. A fresh leak now suggests that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon PC chips will play a key role in powering this new generation of Android computers.

Android 16 code hints at Snapdragon X support for Google’s upcoming desktop OS

According to new information found in the Android 16 private code list (via @Jukanlosreve), Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X series chips are being prepared for Android support. These chips currently power Windows laptops. Their appearance (codename) in Android’s code suggests that Google is getting ready for true desktop computing.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite offers powerful performance and exceptional efficiency. Built on a 4nm System-on-a-Chip architecture, it features a 12-core Oryo CPU with Dual-Core Boost for responsive multitasking. Thanks to the Adreno GPU, it delivers high-quality graphics for gaming and entertainment.

Built for the AI era, the chip includes the advanced Qualcomm AI Engine with a Hexagon NPU. This allows the device to run large on-device AI models (over 13B parameters ) with incredible speed. Moreover, it features a Micro NPU inside the Qualcomm Sensing Hub for improved security and privacy.

This combination of performance, efficiency, and AI power makes the Snapdragon X Elite a solid chip for the upcoming Android PC. A few weeks ago, Qualcomm announced its next-gen PC chips, Snapdragon X2 Elite and X2 Elite Extreme, for the Windows platform. However, the first device featuring either of these chips may not arrive until Spring 2026. It’s unclear whether Qualcomm is preparing these chips for Android PCs.

Google has already confirmed that it plans to merge Android and ChromeOS into a single, unified platform.
