OpenAI has just launched its browser, ChatGPT Atlas. As you might expect, it comes packed with AI-powered features. According to the company, the browser is now rolling out globally for Mac users. Meanwhile, Android, Windows, and iOS users will have to wait a bit longer.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas already has a lot of competition

Quite frankly, we’ve seen plenty of AI-powered browsers come and go in recent memory. To name a notable rival, Perplexity launched Comet, which remains available exclusively on Windows and Mac. While the company plans to roll out mobile apps for Android and iPhone soon, no official timeline has been announced.

Perplexity’s Comet is just one example. On a broader scale, consider the Gemini smarts integrated into Chrome, the Arc browser (now owned by Atlassian), and Microsoft, one of OpenAI’s key backers, which has built Copilot’s AI mode into its Edge browser. These are essentially the apps that OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas will be competing against, or more ambitiously, aiming to capture a slice of their market share.

Here’s what OpenAI is offering with ChatGPT Atlas browser

OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas integrates ChatGPT directly into the web experience. You can interact with search results through the chat interface, similar to other AI-powered browsers. One of its standout features is the Sidecar, a built-in chatbot that automatically understands the content on your screen. This is likely the feature you will use the most if you decide to give it a try.

Additionally, ChatGPT Atlas keeps a browser history, allowing it to personalize responses based on the websites you visit and your activity. The browser also includes an AI agent that can perform tasks on your behalf through agent mode. This feature is available for Plus, Pro, and Business users and is designed to automate small online tasks. Once it becomes available for Android, PC, or iOS, we’ll be sure to update you.
