One UI Watch 8 Could Bring Battery Protection to Galaxy Watches

by | May 8, 2025 | Galaxy Watch, News

Samsung appears to be preparing a new feature for its Galaxy Watches that could help extend battery life over time. On Android phones, battery health tools are becoming increasingly common. Google introduced an option in Android 15 to cap charging at 80%. Now, it looks like Samsung might be bringing a similar feature to its Galaxy Watches as well.

One UI Watch 8 may offer battery protection to extend Galaxy Watch life

According to Android Authority, One UI Watch 8 may introduce a battery protection feature for Galaxy Watches. The publication spotted a line of code referencing the upcoming functionality. This feature would allow the watch to stop charging once it reaches a certain battery percentage and resume only after the charge drops below a defined threshold. It’s a smart move to reduce battery wear, especially when the watch is left on the charger for extended periods.

Apple already uses a similar system on the Apple Watch. While it doesn’t let users set a specific charge limit, it learns daily habits and slows down charging once the battery hits around 80 percent. It then finishes charging just before the user typically puts the watch on. The goal is to avoid keeping the battery at 100 percent for too long, since that can speed up battery degradation.

At the moment, no Android smartwatch offers this kind of battery protection. Not even Google’s own Pixel Watch has it. However, there are signs that Google is working on bringing Adaptive Charging to its watches, possibly with the release of Wear OS 6.

Samsung’s choice to skip One UI Watch 7 and go straight to version 8 could point to bigger changes ahead. If battery protection is included in One UI Watch 8, it could be one of the most useful upgrades. That could help your Galaxy Watch run better and last longer over time. And in case you missed it, the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 and 8 Classic could run One UI Watch 8 right out of the box.
