Some Galaxy users seem confused about how the NotiStar app displays its list of apps. The Application List section displays not only installed apps but also some hidden system apps. More importantly, you can’t remove or disable some of those default apps from the list. Thankfully, Samsung has confirmed that it plans to address this confusion in the next OS upgrade, likely pointing to One UI 9 (Android 17).

Samsung may address NotiStar’s hidden app confusion in One UI 9

Part of the Good Lock suite, Samsung’s NotiStar module lets you view, manage, and search your notification history in one place. Even though you clear notifications from the regular panel, you will still be able to see them later through the module. However, the way it currently displays its app list has caused some confusion.

In the settings page, there’s an Application List section with the description, “Receive a notification from the checked applications.” When you tap on it, you’ll see a long list of apps. However, alongside the regular apps, it also displays several background system services and hidden apps. By default, the system keeps enabling some of these apps while graying out, leaving many users wondering what the point of showing those apps is.

Replying to a user post, a Samsung community moderator recently said, “Due to a discrepancy between the apps that can actually send notifications and the NotiStar app notification list, we’ve changed the system notifications list to display all apps that send notifications from NotiStar (even hidden system apps).”

The moderator explained that the disabled list indicates apps that are not allowed to send notifications. You can check hidden system apps by heading over to Device Settings (not NotiStar Settings) > App Notifications > More at the top > Show system apps. “We will review this thoroughly and improve it in the next OS target”, the moderator noted.

This hints that One UI 9 (Android 17) could bring improvements to how NotiStar displays its app list. Or maybe Samsung will implement the changes to One UI 8.5, expected to debut with the Galaxy S26 series in February 2026. We shall find out in the coming months.
