One UI 9 (Android 17) May Bring Cross-Device Do Not Disturb Sync

Google continues to expand its cross-device features on Android so that multiple devices work seamlessly. The company is working on a new feature that will sync Do Not Disturb across all Android devices. This feature may arrive with Android 17, meaning Samsung users should see it in One UI 9. This could allow Galaxy phones, tablets, and other devices to be silenced simultaneously.

Google is preparing a system-wide Do Not Disturb sync feature

Google already offers a bunch of cross-device features, such as Call Casting and Internet Sharing. The former lets users carry video calls between devices, while the latter allows nearby devices to automatically connect to a phone’s hotspot. Now, it looks like the company is gearing up to expand these services with Do Not Disturb syncing.

According to Android Authority, the code strings in Google Play Services version 26.02.31 point to the Do Not Disturb syncing feature. The strings suggest that Google is developing a new system-wide toggle that will automatically sync Do Not Disturb status across all Android devices signed in to the same account.

Simply put, turning on the toggle on one device should automatically enable it on other connected devices, eliminating the need to manually silence each device. The outlet also obtained an image showing that the option will show up under the Handoff section of Cross-device services.

It is worth mentioning that Samsung already offers Do Not Disturb syncing between a Galaxy phone and a Galaxy Watch. You can do so in the Galaxy Wearable app by selecting Sync phone settings, then toggling Sync Do Not Disturb. However, this new system-wide toggle appears to be “a more comprehensive implementation that works across phones, tablets, and potentially Chromebooks”.

Meanwhile, the code strings also point to another feature we already learned about: Universal Clipboard. This feature lets you copy content on one Android device and paste it on another. Both features are expected to be part of the upcoming Android 17-based One UI 9. We should learn more in the coming months.
