One UI 8 Voice Recorder Brings Slick New Galaxy AI Button and More

Samsung released a new update today for its Voice Recorder app, developed for devices running One UI 8. What makes this update unique is that it is also fully compatible with devices running One UI 7. While Samsung continues to prepare for the official launch of One UI 8, with a leaked build already circulating online, users on older software can already experience some of the updated design.
Redesigned interface refocuses on voice recordings
The latest version introduces a subtle redesign. Instead of highlighting AI features, Samsung now prioritizes what the app was built for: recording and playing back voice notes. Previous versions pushed the playback view aside to make room for prominent buttons for transcription and summary. Now, playback is once again the main focus on the screen. The transcription feature is still available, but appears as a non-intrusive button. Samsung has grouped other AI tools such as summarization and translation in a menu at the top of the screen. This results in a cleaner and more user-friendly interface.

AI as assistant, not as the main character
This update shows a shift in Samsung’s design philosophy. AI no longer takes the spotlight but supports the user in the background. You remain in control and decide when to use tools like transcription or translation. These features are available, but they don’t dominate the app’s interface. This approach better reflects how most users interact with apps. AI is helpful, but it should not get in the way.

One of the key things to note is compatibility. While the app is designed for One UI 8, it also works well on devices running One UI 7. This lets users with older Galaxy phones try out some of the new features without installing risky firmware or waiting for an official update.
It’s very much a user-focused update
With this version, Samsung proves that innovation and usability can go hand in hand. By keeping the interface simple and letting AI play a supportive role, the Voice Recorder app becomes more aligned with what users actually need.
