One UI 8 to Add the Missing Landscape Mode to DIY Home

Samsung’s Good Lock suite has long been a fan favorite for those who love customizing their Galaxy devices. With One UI 7, the company introduced several enhancements across Good Lock modules, including DIY Home. A feature inside Home Up, it lets you personalize your home screen layout and animations. Now, Samsung is gearing up to make DIY Home even more powerful with landscape support in One UI 8.

DIY Home gives Galaxy users a drag-and-drop interface to fully design their home screens. You can place apps, widgets, and folders anywhere, resize and rearrange items without any grid limits, and create a layout that fits your aesthetic and workflow. Moreover, you can customize the system animations when you enter or exit the home screen and launch or close an app.

It’s a step beyond the usual Android or One UI launcher options, offering precise control over your phone’s main screen — no rooting or third-party launchers needed. However, as great as DIY Home is in One UI 7, it has one key limitation: it only works in portrait mode. If you enable auto-rotate on your device and rotate your phone horizontally, DIY Home won’t function. This has frustrated users who often use their phones in landscape mode.

Thankfully, Samsung has acknowledged the issue. A Samsung Community moderator recently confirmed that landscape mode support for DIY Home is under review. If it passes internal evaluation, the feature should be available in One UI 8. The company is currently beta testing the next OS version, with a stable release planned for July.

The updated version of Home UP with landscape mode support for DIY Home should arrive after the One UI 8 stable release. Keep an eye out for Samsung’s official announcements and updates in the Good Lock app as the next big software upgrade draws closer.
