Samsung is preparing a useful quality-of-life upgrade with One UI 8.5. If your phone keeps buzzing with annoying ad notifications from misbehaving apps, the upcoming update will put a stop to it. One UI 8.5 automatically places those apps in deep sleep so they can’t keep spamming your notification shade.

Your Galaxy phone will step in if apps send excessive ad notifications

The new feature focuses specifically on blocking apps that send excessive ad notifications, not apps that show ads inside the app. Unfortunately, in-app ads can’t be blocked by the system; those usually require a premium subscription to remove. But when it comes to notification spam, One UI 8.5 will take care of the problem on your behalf.

Samsung appears to be developing a two-tier system that automatically detects and controls apps that repeatedly send ad notifications. Basic Blocking may use a pre-determined list of apps known to push frequent ad notifications. If one of these apps is detected on your phone, One UI 8.5 will automatically block the app’s ad notifications and move the app into deep deep so it stops bothering you.

Intelligent Blocking, meanwhile, analyzes the notifications on your device locally. If the system thinks a notification is an advertisement and you’re getting them too often, it will block those notifications. Samsung notes that this analysis may not always be perfect, but it should significantly reduce daily notification spam.

Of course, your phone won’t outright uninstall those spammy apps. Samsung simply parks them where they can’t disturb you. You can find them in Settings > Device care > Care report > Excessive alerts. From there, you can see apps put in Deep Sleep for sending too many ad notifications and take action if needed.

Hopefully, Samsung also adds a way to whitelist specific apps so One UI 8.5 doesn’t end up muting essential apps that just happen to send a lot of alerts. Simply turning the feature off defeats its purpose, so having exceptions feels like the right middle ground. One UI 8.5 will debut with the Galaxy S26 series in early 2026, so we should know soon how Samsung plans to refine this much-needed upgrade.
