One UI 8.5: Release Date, Beta Eligibility and All You Need to Know

One UI 8 rollout has come to an end. The last device, the Galaxy Tab A9+, has finally received the update. Now, Samsung seems to be working on its next big One UI release, the One UI 8.5. For context, One UI 8.5 is expected to be a very big change compared to One UI 8. Last updated on February 5, 2026.
Samsung begins preparing the One UI 8.5 update after completing the One UI 8 rollout
The launch also seems imminent as Samsung has already started preparing the software on test servers. This is a change from the usual “X.1” updates after major releases. For example, One UI 6.1 followed One UI 6. However, this year, Samsung seems to be switching things up. The company is directly moving to One UI 8.5. Here’s all you need to know about One UI 8.5 and its expected release schedule.

One UI 8.5 stable release
The stable version of One UI 8.5 is expected to debut alongside Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S26 series. For which, the mystery box reservations are now open (US only). The S26 series should launch early next year at the Galaxy Unpacked event. After the launch, Samsung will roll out One UI 8.5 to other devices like the Galaxy S25 series, S24 series, Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy A56. The rollout should begin around mid-March, usually two or three weeks after the Galaxy S26 release.

Samsung will take some extra time to optimize the update for older Galaxy devices. Older S series, A series, Z series, M series, and F series models will most likely get the update later. The company does not follow a very predictable pattern for older devices, so it is hard to estimate accurate dates. If the One UI 8.5 stable rollout starts in mid-March, the update should complete for all eligible devices by the end of May 2026. Again, this may change depending on Samsung’s internal plans.
Beta program & eligible devices (most likely)
The Galaxy S25 series has become the first lineup to receive the One UI 8.5 beta update. As expected, the Galaxy S25 FE and Galaxy S25 Edge are not eligible for the beta program. This follows Samsung’s usual pattern, as FE and Edge models are generally excluded from beta testing.
Apart from the Galaxy S25 series, a few other devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 could join the beta program later. However, as of now, no One UI 8.5 beta build has been spotted for any device other than the Galaxy S25 series.
Most likely, the Galaxy S24 series and Galaxy A series models will not be included in the beta program. The reason is simple: expanding the beta to more devices would slow things down. Since the Galaxy S26 series is expected to launch early this year, Samsung wants to avoid any delays to the stable One UI 8.5 release.

Beta release timeline
The first One UI 8.5 beta went live for the Galaxy S25 series on December 8. The second beta update went live on December 22. India and Poland also got added to the beta-supported regions. Currently, the beta program is available in regions like India, Poland, Germany, the US, the UK, and Korea.
Galaxy S25 series users in India and Poland received their first beta on December 22, which was released as Beta 2 in other regions. The third beta, labeled as Beta 2 for India and Poland, rolled out on January 5, 2026.
A fourth beta release for the Galaxy S25 series was expected, but did not take place. New beta builds have already appeared, suggesting that Samsung may roll out another beta update.
Some leaks also point out to a direct One UI 8.5 stable release, maybe by February ending. The actual Beta 4 update should release in the next few days, at max. Otherwise, the company may plan on skipping it.

Eligible devices
One UI 8.5 is based on Android 16 QPR2. Samsung has not yet confirmed the official list of eligible devices. However, there is a high chance that all devices that received the One UI 8 update will also get One UI 8.5. We should get the full list once Samsung makes an official announcement. In the meantime, refer to this list.
Features & enhancements
One UI 8.5 is expected to be a major update in terms of visual improvements and new features. The update brings a customizable Quick Panel, an improved screen recorder, and a redesigned Game Booster with a new layout and more options.
System apps like Settings, Phone, Samsung Messages, My Files, and Samsung Internet also get layout and design improvements. One UI 8.5 may also introduce the Prioritize Notifications option and Now Bar support for more apps. This might bring Live Activity features to more Samsung and third-party apps.
