Earlier today, we learned that Samsung Cloud is set to make a comeback as a Gallery backup solution with the upcoming One UI 8.5 update. This means you’ll be able to back up your Gallery photos directly to Samsung Cloud, which Samsung phased out a couple of years ago. However, it wasn’t clear at the time whether Microsoft OneDrive and Samsung Cloud will coexist for sync in Samsung Gallery. Or if the former might be nearing its end.

Samsung Cloud is so back!

Thankfully, a report from Android Authority clears up the confusion. A deep dive of the Samsung Gallery app in One UI 8.5 suggests that support for OneDrive may be ending soon. While neither Samsung nor Microsoft has officially commented, the code strings within the update leave little doubt. These strings indicate that future Gallery backups will rely primarily on Samsung Cloud.

In the lines of code, we can see Sync with OneDrive ending soon, support for OneDrive will end %s, After %s, Gallery will no longer support syncing with OneDrive. And another line reads “After %s, Gallery will no longer support syncing with OneDrive”. So… I think that’s enough confirmation we need.

The only detail that remains uncertain is the timing. Will this change take effect with the launch of One UI 8.5, or could it happen even earlier? We may have to wait a couple of weeks for official confirmation. But the code strings leave little doubt that OneDrive support in the Gallery is nearing its end.
