One UI 8.5 Brings Smarter Adaptive Clock with Intelligent Colors

Samsung’s upcoming One UI 8.5 update will not just introduce new features but also improve existing ones. We already have a fair idea of the improvements and features coming to Galaxy devices with the new software. Now, with the latest internal build, the company has made its Adaptive Clock smarter and more versatile.
One UI 8.5 makes your lock screen more elegant with the enhanced Adaptive Clock
Introduced with One UI 8, Adaptive Clock is a new lock screen customization feature. It adjusts the clock’s size, shape, and position to fit around subjects in the wallpaper for a cleaner look. However, the feature can not recognize all kinds of subjects — it focuses mainly on humans and animals. Thankfully, Samsung has removed this limitation in One UI 8.5, allowing you to take full advantage of this cool clock feature regardless of what appears in your wallpaper.
As you can see in the video below, tipster @UniverseIce compared One UI 8 and One UI 8.5, showing the improvements to Adaptive Clock. In the comparison, the new version clearly shows how the clock now adjusts its shape to different kinds of subjects, creating a visually pleasing lock screen.
In addition to improved subject recognition, One UI 8.5 introduces an intelligent color selection effect for the clock background. The clock can now automatically select a color that harmonizes with your wallpaper for a balanced look. Furthermore, it gives a subtle frosted glass effect that feels more elegant.

Of course, if you are not a developer or enthusiast, you can not experience these improvements yet. The new features are currently available only in the latest internal builds, which may contain bugs. The good news is that Samsung may open the One UI 8.5 public beta program in the final week of November, giving select Galaxy users a chance to try the next Android 16-based software. The company will debut the stable version alongside the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, expected in January 2026. Stay tuned for more details.
