One UI 8.5 adds New Scheduling Options for Modes and Routines

Samsung continues refining its automation tool, Modes and Routines, in One UI 8.5, and a small but useful improvement has just appeared. The latest version of Samsung’s software now lets users control how long a routine stays active.
One UI 8.5 allows you to set an expiry date for routines
Spotted by Android Authority, the latest version of Samsung’s One UI 8.5 software now lets users control how long a routine stays active. It adds new scheduling options that weren’t available before. SammyGuru’s Josh Skinner also spotted this change on his Galaxy Z Fold 7 running One UI 8.5 Beta. This confirms that the feature isn’t limited to early test builds.
Instead of running indefinitely, routines can now follow one of three schedules: forever, choose date, or run only once. Previously, routines typically stayed active unless users manually disabled them. With the new system, you can automate tasks for specific time periods. Alternatively, you can set one-off actions.
More flexibility for automation
This addition may sound small, but it significantly improves how routines work in real-world scenarios. For example, you could create routines that activate during a vacation or travel period. Or they could trigger a one-time automation for events like presentations or meetings. Because routines can now expire automatically, users don’t have to remember to disable them later.
The feature already works on the Galaxy S26 series running One UI 8.5 stable. It also works on the Galaxy S25 series running One UI 8.5 Beta.
As Samsung continues expanding the capabilities of Modes and Routines, the feature is slowly turning into a powerful automation tool built directly into One UI. And with additions like this, Galaxy users can automate their phones with far more control than before.
