No, Galaxy S26 Ultra Doesn’t Come With Rumored UFS 4.1 Upgrade

The rumor mill had long suggested that the Galaxy S26 series might come with a UFS 4.1 upgrade. It was one of the most anticipated upgrades we hoped to see this year, especially since UFS 4.1 was officially released in early 2025 and Samsung has been using UFS 4.0 since the Galaxy S23 series.
Galaxy S26 Ultra (and others) come with UFS 4.0 storage
But as it turns out, according to PhoneArena, the Galaxy S26 Ultra doesn’t come with the UFS 4.1 storage upgrade. Instead, the Galaxy S26 series is sticking with UFS 4.0. That isn’t inherently bad by any means, but UFS 4.1 would have been better, especially at the price you’re paying, which isn’t exactly low.
But let’s be honest, is this really going to influence your buying decision? Probably not. It isn’t likely to affect everyday use, since UFS 4.0 is already extremely fast for modern smartphones. While UFS 4.1 could offer small improvements, sticking with UFS 4.0 may help keep device pricing under control. And there isn’t a huge difference between the two.
How does UFS matter on smartphones?
UFS (Universal Flash Storage) is the internal storage used in smartphones to store apps, files, and system data. The newer UFS 4.1 standard aims to improve speed and efficiency. Faster storage means apps open quicker, files transfer faster, and the phone feels more responsive. It also adds features like better data organization, improved caching, and support for larger storage capacities, possibly up to 2TB.
Looking ahead, future Galaxy models might adopt UFS 4.1 or possibly move directly to the next generation, UFS 5.0. That might make more sense if Samsung plans to move to UFS 5.0, especially since it’s already being tested for future phones. I just hope Samsung eventually brings UFS 5.0, even if it’s limited to the Ultra model. I wouldn’t mind that.
