Samsung is making the Galaxy Z Fold 7 wider and thinner, but there may not be any other major design changes. The overall look may be identical to the Fold 6. The device could bring some noteworthy improvements under the hood though. Samsung’s long-rumored tri-fold foldable also doesn’t may not offer any shocking design elements, new leaks suggest.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 to sport more efficient displays

It was recently revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will sport an 8-inch internal display and a 6.5-inch cover screen. These screens are bigger than the Fold 6 displays but boast identical specs, including brightness. However, reports suggest the new panels are more power efficient.

Both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 screens allegedly consume less power, offering longer battery life than their predecessor. Early prototype tests suggest the Fold 7 lasts about 55 minutes longer than the Fold 6 on a single charge despite an identical battery capacity. The improved efficiency of the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor might have also helped extend the battery life.

In terms of appearance, the new Fold 7 retains the overall look of its predecessor. It is definitely slimmer and wider but features an identical flat frame and camera rings. Samsung is refining its foldable design with each new generation, rather than trying to come up with something completely new.

The tri-fold follows the same design language

Samsung is also developing a tri-fold smartphone, its first ever. An early prototype allegedly features a 2600-nit cover display with an adaptive refresh rate and Pro Scaler support for enhanced visuals. The device, supposedly called the Galaxy G Fold, appears to boast only 25W wired charging, but we hope the company offers at least 45W speeds.

The upcoming tri-fold follows the same design language as Samsung’s existing foldables. The device might essentially look like a bigger version of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with an identical cover screen, bezel width, and frame design. It has an ultra-thin cooling system, though a large footprint may allow enough space for a wider cooling area.

Samsung’s early tri-fold prototype also features water sealing for speakers and hinges. However, it isn’t clear if the device will offer an official IP rating for dust and water resistance. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 feature an IP48 rating. The Korean firm will launch its next-gen foldables, which might also include an affordable Galaxy Z Flip FE, in the third quarter of 2025.
