May 2025 Security Update Rolling Out for Galaxy S21 FE

May 2025 is coming to a close soon, and Samsung is rushing to update eligible Galaxy devices to the latest security patch. The Galaxy S21 FE recently picked up this month’s security maintenance release (SMR), addressing several dozen vulnerabilities. It joins a bunch of other devices in the May SMR party.
Samsung pushes the May 2025 security update to the Galaxy S21 FE
As of this writing, the May 2025 update is available for the Snapdragon variants of the Galaxy S21 FE. Samsung is currently rolling out the new SMR in India with firmware version G990B2XXSCHYE2. The OTA (over the air) firmware package weighs approximately 350MB and doesn’t bring anything more than this month’s security fixes.
Samsung has already revealed that the May SMR addresses nearly 60 Android OS vulnerabilities and 20-odd Galaxy vulnerabilities. Depending on the severity of these security flaws, threat actors can exploit them to gain remote access to your device. You should always install new security patches as soon as they become available.
Sometimes, these monthly updates may also contain general performance optimizations and minor function enhancements to improve the overall user experience. Don’t expect any major new features with this release, though. The Galaxy S21 FE recently picked up One UI 7 with a range of new features and a refined user interface.
While the May update is currently limited in select regions, Samsung will soon release it globally, also covering the Exynos variants. You may get a notification once the update hits your unit, though you can always check for updates manually. Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
The Galaxy S21 FE is also eligible for the upcoming Android 16-based One UI 8 update. However, other S21 series models — including the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra — will not receive One UI 8, as they’ve completed their major OS update cycle.
