Love It or Not, One UI 7’s Chunky Battery Icon Seems Here to Stay

by | Apr 9, 2025 | News, One UI

Samsung is in the process of rolling out One UI 7 to eligible older models, introducing new features from the Galaxy S25 series. However, one particular change has caught the attention of many users, including us. The battery icon in the stable build for the Galaxy S24 and other models is different from the one on the S25. It’s the shorter and wider icon from the beta times, rather than the leaner and longer version from the S25 series. This change has sparked discussions and speculations about the reasons behind the design shift.

Why does the battery icon look odd in One UI 7, Samsung?

Over the past few months, Samsung has gone back and forth between two different battery icons in One UI 7 beta. While some models picked up the leaner icon from the Galaxy S25, others received a shorter and wider one. We asked many users, and most of them liked the former. Sure enough, the latter enhances readability because of the bigger text and other indicators, but it isn’t aesthetically pleasing. We expected Samsung to push the S25 version to all models with the stable One UI 7 release, but it did not happen.

Upon updating our Galaxy Z Fold SE that we imported from South Korea — One UI 7 is only available for Korean Galaxy S24, Fold 6, Flip 6, and Fold SE units — we noticed that the battery icon matches the Galaxy S24 Ultra running One UI 7 Beta 6 rather than the S25 Ultra. Interestingly, the S25 series lacks media player support for live notifications, while it’s available on other devices. Maybe Samsung deliberately chose the shorter icon to space things evenly when the media player chip shows up in the status bar.

But then, there’s enough free space on the status bar, so it isn’t entirely clear why Samsung didn’t include the longer battery icon in the final build. Maybe readability was the primary focus rather than aesthetics. After all, you get used to it over time. Samsung will soon roll out One UI 7 to the Galaxy S24, Fold 6, and Flip 6 in the US and other regions, with more devices following later this month. We will keep you posted.
