Key Galaxy Watch Health Features Receive MFDS Recognition

Samsung offers several health tracking features on its Galaxy wearables through Samsung Health. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has registered the service’s key functions under South Korea’s new digital medical and health support framework. This is the first such recognition for a digital health platform in the country.
MFDS registers Samsung Health features under the new digital health framework
The registration is part of the Digital Medical Products Act, which took effect in January 2025. In January this year, MFDS launched a voluntary reporting and performance certification system for digital medical and health support services. This lets the government agency disclose information on reported products to the public, improving transparency. As such, consumers can choose reliable digital health products free of misleading or exaggerated advertising.
Samsung participated in the MFDS initiative to institutionalize digital medical and health support services. As mentioned above, Samsung Health’s key feature completed South Korea’s first registration under the new system. These include heart rate, blood oxygen, and step count, which are available on Galaxy wearable devices, including the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring.
For the uninitiated, Samsung Health is a health management platform that tracks a host of daily health indicators. The service uses AI to offer personalized insights for better health control. For example, when connected to a Galaxy wearable device, the platform can automatically measure heart rate throughout the day. It then notifies users when it detects unusual patterns. Users can also monitor blood oxygen saturation during daily activities.
“Samsung Electronics will continue to innovate for preventative health management through wearable devices, which are establishing themselves as essential tools for health management,” said Choi Jong-min, Senior Vice President of the Digital Health Team at Samsung Electronics’ MX Business Division.
