After years of waiting, sideloading, and unofficial workarounds, Jellyfin has officially arrived on Samsung Smart TVs running Tizen OS, as reported by Linuxiac.

After a long wait, the open-source media server now appears in the Tizen app store. This lets users install Jellyfin just like any other streaming app. There is no need to enable developer mode, perform manual installations, or rely on additional tools.

Jellyfin finally launches on Samsung Tizen TVs

Jellyfin, a popular free and open-source Plex alternative for streaming self-hosted media, already runs on platforms such as Windows, macOS, Linux, and LG TVs. After years of waiting, it is now coming natively to Samsung TVs running Tizen OS.

Until now, Samsung TV owners had to rely on community installers and more involved setup steps to use Jellyfin. While these options worked, they were not especially user-friendly. This official release makes Jellyfin easier to install and use, letting users stream their own movies, TV shows, and music without subscriptions.

The rollout seems to focus on newer Samsung TVs, likely running Tizen 6 or newer according to u/Stooovie on Reddit. Additionally, much like what happens often, availability may vary by region or model. Some users may not see the app yet, as availability appears to vary by model and region.

That said, reports suggest Jellyfin is already live on many Samsung TVs from 2021 and newer. If you own a compatible TV, it may already be available in the Tizen app store and worth checking for now.
