Samsung has invested heavily in India, which remains one of its key markets. The Noida plant is among the company’s largest manufacturing facilities, playing a crucial role in ramping up production. Amid global tariff tensions, India has served as something of a safe haven for Samsung, helping it navigate rising trade barriers. However, the company may now need to explore alternative strategies to keep production running smoothly.

25% US tariff on India may disrupt Samsung’s supply chain

President Donald Trump today announced a 25 percent tariff on Indian imports, effective August 1 (Friday). While intended to rebalance trade, the tariffs could significantly impact Samsung, particularly its smartphone and electronics businesses, which rely on components and manufacturing partnerships in India.

The new tariff rate is higher than the 15 percent imposed on the EU and the 20 percent on Vietnam, making Indian exports among the hardest hit. For Samsung, this could mean increased costs on products made in India and shipped to the US. A report yesterday revealed that India has become the largest smartphone exporter to the US, dethroning China.

India plays a central role in Samsung’s Make for the World strategy. Its Noida plant has been a key export hub. And it looks like Samsung may have to rethink its India-to-US supply chain.

With components like chargers, circuit boards, and accessories often sourced from Indian suppliers, the cost impact could extend beyond final assembly. Samsung may need to shift more US-bound production to Vietnam or consider local sourcing in North America, both of which would require operational changes and raise expenses.

While the company has not issued an official response, it might be closely monitoring trade negotiations. Based on which, it may revise its supply chain strategy based on how talks between the US and India evolve. For now, the tariff move introduces a new layer of uncertainty ahead of Galaxy S26 series launch.
