A new Flappy Bird clone is making the rounds, and this one seems designed to make foldable phone owners nervous. Called Foldy Bird, the game turns a familiar tap-based mechanic into something much more physical. Instead of touching the screen, players have to unfold their phone to keep the bird in the air. Every snap open counts as a jump, which means chasing a high score now comes with a very real sense of financial risk.

Foldy Bird is a Flappy Bird clone, but only for foldables

Foldy Bird is a web-based project created by X user @rebane2001, and it runs directly in Chrome. There’s no app to download and no setup beyond opening the page on a compatible foldable. The game uses hinge angle detection for input, so the bird jumps at the end of an unfold motion. Everything else sticks closely to classic Flappy Bird, from the pipes to the brutal timing that made the original so infuriating.

From a technical standpoint, the idea is genuinely clever. Foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold series already depend on precise hinge sensors for features such as Flex Mode, and more. Foldy Bird repurposes that same hardware for gameplay, showing just how responsive modern foldable sensors have become. It is a small but telling example of how developers can play with form factors beyond the usual split-screen gimmicks.

Durability, however, is the obvious concern. Samsung has been shipping Galaxy Z Fold devices for seven generations now. Even so, hinges and inner displays are still mechanical parts that wear down over time. These devices are tested under controlled conditions, not rapid-fire open-and-close motions triggered by missing a pipe.

Foldy Bird even warns players to proceed at their own risk, and that warning should be taken seriously. It is a fun experiment. But not one to try on your daily-use Galaxy Z Fold unless you’re eager to test whether Samsung or that YouTuber is right about hinge limits.
