Even though Samsung Wallet comes pre-installed on Galaxy devices, Google Wallet remains an incredibly useful app for storing credit cards, tickets, passes, digital keys, and more. And it’s about to get even better. During Google I/O 2025, among several major announcements, Google revealed that Wallet will soon support Nearby Passes notifications.

Google Wallet is now rolling out Nearby Passes notifications

First spotted in the app code last November (via Android Authority), this feature is now officially available. That means Google has launched Nearby Passes notifications in the Wallet app. As you might have guessed, the new feature is designed to send helpful alerts based on your location.

For example, if you’re near a specific place such as a concert venue, airport, or store, Google Wallet will now automatically show a notification about any relevant pass in your app. This could include boarding passes, event tickets, store offers, or loyalty cards.

In other words, you won’t have to dig through the app to find what you need. If you’re heading into a stadium for a game, your phone can remind you of your ticket as you approach. The feature isn’t enabled by default, so you’ll need to turn it on in the Wallet settings. It also won’t work with every pass right away. Developers need to set up specific location data for their passes, so some older or less common ones might not support it yet.

Google has introduced two new settings to help you manage these alerts. The first allows you to control notifications for individual passes, including those triggered by location. You’ll find this option on the pass detail screen. The second is a general toggle in the app’s notification settings that lets you turn Nearby Passes alerts on or off for all passes. It indeed is a small update, but could prove very smart and genuinely useful.
