Google is aiming to integrate its AI-powered assistant, Gemini, into several devices. The company has already made Gemini available on many Android phones, including Galaxy smartphones with One UI 7. Now, it says Gemini will be available on tablets, headphones, watches, and cars later this year. So, brace Galaxy Watch users, Gemining is coming to your wrist.
Gemini is coming to Galaxy Watch and more devices later this year
During the company’s recent Q1 2025 earnings call, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said, “We’re upgrading Google Assistant on mobile devices to Gemini, and later this year we’ll upgrade tablets, cars and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches.” He also said that all 15 of Google’s products with half a billion users now use Gemini models, suggesting that the company is making Gemini a key part of its ecosystem.
Right now, Android users can choose either the Google Assistant or Gemini. But Google is already in the process of making Gemini the default voice assistant. For example, Gemini is now the default voice assistant on Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series. Last month, the company said that its aged Google Assistant app will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices over the coming months. The app will also not be available for download from mobile app stores.
Additionally, by later this year, it plans to expand its AI-powered assistant’s reach to several platforms, including Wear OS and Android Auto. As of now, there is no word on an exact launch month or date, but we may learn more details next month during Google I/O 2025.
While Google has not revealed how it will push the Gemini Assistant to these devices, an earlier report suggested it will arrive via a straightforward app update, at least on Wear OS devices, including the Galaxy Watch lineup.
Google not only wants to integrate Gemini’s chatbot to devices, but also wants to offer some of its advanced functionality for free to all Android users. Yes, you heard that right. It now makes Gemini Live’s screen-sharing and camera capabilities free for all Android users, though it might take a few weeks to show up on your device.
