Google Preps Gemini for Galaxy Watches Ahead of Galaxy Unpacked

by | Apr 30, 2025 | Galaxy Watch, News, Updates

Google announced they would be winding down support for Assistant back in March, and the next step in that journey is on their Wear OS-based devices. Changes have rolled out to the Assistant on Galaxy watches that could pave the way for Gemini.

Gemini on Galaxy watches is on its way soon

An update pushed to the Assistant app removed some references to the Assistant, and replaced them with a generic Digital Assistant moniker. This can be seen in three different areas. The background app activity and as an option for a watch face complication. It has a three-star design, with one of them being the Gemini logo.

When will this release?

Now comes the bigger question, when will these changes be fully implemented? Well, there are two likely times for this to release. The first could be during Google’s The Android Show event on May 13th. This is notably before the flagship annual Google I/O event the following day, and is set to be filled to the brim with Android news. Google itself has teased new Wear OS features on their Twitter/X page.

The second possible release window could be for the next Galaxy Unpacked event in July. Samsung is set to release their latest lineup of watches, the Watch 8 series. The two companies have a unique relationship, and new Gemini features are often shown off on Samsung devices. Gemini Live’s demonstration on the Galaxy S24 Ultra during the Pixel 9 launch keynote is a prime example. This could be a large selling point for the new wearables, maybe with Samsung integrations sprinkled on top.

Stay tuned for any more developments, both on this upcoming feature and the new Galaxy Watch 8 series.
