Google Play Games, Google’s online gaming service for keeping track of your games, achievements, managing game profiles, and connecting with friends, may be headed to the Google Graveyard. The company has been integrating its features into the Play Store app, which manages all types of apps, games, and more. The plan might be to allow users to manage games in one place and kill Google Play Games as a standalone app.

Google may add all Play Games features to the Play Store

X user AssembleDebug (@AssembleDebug), known for discovering unreleased features in apps, says the Google Play Games app could be the next one to join the Google Graveyard. He said that the Play Store already allows users to track achievements, and soon Google will add the rest of the Play Games features directly to the Play Store.

Not just achievement tracking, but the Play Store is gaining key features like gamer profile management and social connections. Meanwhile, Google has neither updated the UI nor added new features to the Play Games app for several months. This is a good sign that it may soon get rid of Play Games in favor of the Play Store.

In some ways, this is a good move since it eliminates the need for a standalone application for games. While some gamers might appreciate the existing dedicated app for the game, the reactions are so far on the positive side, with some saying that the app was pointless since the Play Store could already do most of the functionality.

A user said, “They should now do this seriously. So many apps. Merging a few apps and managing those efficiently will help them a lot and us too.” If this move happens, Google Play Games might eventually join a long list of Google’s killed projects, like Google+, Stadia, Hangouts, etc. However, the Play Store should integrate all of Play Games’ features before Google phases out the game-centric app.
