Samsung has been leading the global foldable market from the beginning, thanks to its early entry into this space. Now, other OEMs are also trying to catch up by introducing standout features on their foldable devices. A new report suggests that the upcoming Pixel 10 Pro Fold might be the first foldable phone to receive an IP68 rating. If true, Samsung will face real competition from Google in the foldable market for the first time.

Pixel 10 Pro Fold may arrive with IP68 water and dust resistance

Google is gearing up to launch its next-generation foldable, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, in August this year. The new foldable phone will arrive with some notable upgrades, such as a larger 6.4-inch cover screen. That’s not a concern for Samsung, as it is reportedly introducing a slightly larger 6.5-inch cover screen on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7.

However, the Korean firm may still lag behind when it comes to durability, especially if the Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers IP68 dust and water resistance. This means Google’s offering will have a major advantage in real-world protection, an area where foldables have traditionally been weak. Samsung’s new book-style foldable will likely offer an IP48 rating, similar to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6.

IP ratings indicate how well a device resists dust and water. This protection standard ensures the device’s durability and reliability in different environments. With an IP68 rating, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold would be fully protected against dust as well as capable of withstanding submersion in up to 1m of water for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, IP48 on Samsung’s latest foldable ensures it protects against dust greater than 1mm and is immersible up to 1.5m for 30 minutes.

As the competition heats up, it will be interesting to see if Samsung offers an IP68 rating with its 2026 foldable devices. Or who knows, Samsung will surprise fans by offering an IP58 or IP68 rating on the Fold 7, as noted by Android Central, when it debuts its new foldable lineup on July 9 during the Unpacked event. Stay tuned for more updates.
