Being able to delete chats for both parties is one of the most useful features any messaging app can offer. It’s already available on apps like Telegram, WhatsApp, and others. Unfortunately, Google Messages doesn’t support the “Delete for everyone” feature yet, which is annoying for those who are used to it elsewhere. But that’s likely about to change soon.
Google Messages app code hints at “Delete for everyone” feature
As spotted by Android Authority, Google Messages will soon let you wipe RCS messages on both ends. Code sleuth AssembleDebug found references to “Delete for everyone” in Google Messages v20250131_02_RC00. When the feature lands, you’ll be able to delete messages from both your device and the recipient’s, which aligns with RCS Universal Profile 2.7, announced in June 2024.
Once it’s available, Google Messages will add two new options for RCS chats, Delete for everyone and Delete for me. These will let users remove messages from both devices.
However, there’s a catch. Google Messages will notify the other person when a message is deleted, or if you try to delete it. Which isn’t a big issue unless you want to delete something quietly. The recipient will see alerts like: Message deleted by its author, You deleted a message, or Sender attempted to delete a message. Also, messages may still be visible to others on older app versions, which could limit how effective this feature is.
The publication doesn’t give a specific release date, so we can only hope it comes soon. Also, now that Samsung Messages supports RCS again, features like reactions and the upcoming ‘Delete for everyone’ may only be available in Google Messages. A Samsung spokesperson confirmed to SammyGuru via email that “there may be certain feature limitations related to RCS with Samsung Messages.”
