Google Messages Slowly Rolling Out Delete For Everyone in RCS Group Chats

by | May 9, 2025 | News

Mistakes that happen while texting are pretty common. If it’s a personal message, the recipient can usually understand and overlook it. However, goof-ups in group chats can be a whole different story — they’re not exactly ideal. The good news is that it seems like this issue is finally being addressed. A few weeks ago, we first heard that Google Messages was introducing a “Delete for everyone” feature in RCS group chats. Now, Google is rolling out this feature in a phased approach through a public beta, which means a broader release could be just around the corner.

Google Messages appears to be rolling out Delete for everyone in RCS group chats

A Reddit user recently discovered that the much-anticipated “Delete for Everyone” feature in RCS group chats on Google Messages is finally starting to appear. “I’ve only found one group where it works… it’s a large group of 12 people,” noted Reddit user seeareeff. They even shared a screenshot showing the new feature in action. In the image, there’s a disclaimer accompanying the message, which reads, “Messages may still be seen by others on older app versions.”

Google Messages Delete for everyone RCS chats beta

The “Delete for everyone” feature is part of the RCS Universal Profile version 2.7. While the standard is now official, support across RCS apps like Google Messages is still being rolled out.

Currently, the feature is being tested in a limited beta phase. The gradual rollout shows that Google is cautiously testing the waters, offering the feature to specific users or chat types. So far, it’s only been seen in group chats, with no indication that it’s available for one-on-one conversations yet. This slow approach suggests that Google is working out any potential issues before releasing it more widely. We’ll likely hear more as Google Messages starts rolling out the feature in its full public release.
